History in the Making. District Seven (D7) of the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue, Incorporated (FIND) was founded in 1993 by a group of Virginia college students after attending the George WashingtonUniversity National Conference in the spring of 1993. The D7 family was originally composed of the College of William and Mary, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, the University of Virginia,
and Virginia Commonwealth University. Norfolk State University, Tidewater Community College, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University joined soon thereafter. D7 was formally inducted in the fall of 1993 during the second National Dialogue, which was held in Rochester, New York.
Bringing Communities Together. The emergence and existence of D7 was influenced and is continuallysupported by the large concentrated Filipino population of the Hampton Roads area. The Hampton Roads area serves as a great tool and resource for D7 with its active adult Filipino Community. D7 leaders also utilize the Filipino and Asian / Pacific Islander communities of the Richmond Metropolitan region and the Northern Virginia region.
A Tradition of Excellence. D7 is one of the largest and most vast districts in the FIND. The great distance between the schools has presented many challenges, yet D7 has managed to host not one, but two National Dialogues; one at the University of Virginia in 1995 and the other at Old Dominion University in`1999. In the spring of 2005, D7 hosted the National Conference, which was held at the College of William and Mary. D7 is a strong and resilient district that has made great strides in Filipino American education with the establishment of an annual Mini-Dialogue and the implementation of the Standardizing Filipino American Studies program. In addition, D7 is proactive in addressing the issues and concerns facing Filipinos. D7 advocacy efforts include its partnership in the formation of the Virginia Chapter of Student Action for Veterans Equity (SAVE-VA).
