Founded in 1982, the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) is truly a community-based organization whose mission is “...to preserve, document, and present Filipino American history and to support scholarly research and artistic works which reflect that rich past...” The national office and archives is housed in Seattle, operating year-round to lend expertise and support to twenty-seven chapters across the United States and is recognized as the primary informational resource on Filipino Americans for:

  • community organizations
  • primary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities
  • local and national museums and historical associations
  • independent authors, playwrights, and filmmakers
  • teachers, students, and scholars

Our primary mission is to study, research, and train in the Martial Arts of the Philippines in order to develop real-world survival skills. We are committed to training young adults in the Filipino fighting arts for personal protection, personal development, and spiritual growth.

GILAS

GILAS (Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students) is a multi-sectoral initiative that is composed mainly of corporations and concerned non-profit institutions that realize the need to invest in bridging the digital divide among the nation's public high school students. GILAS aims to provide Internet access to all public secondary school students in the Philippines, thus giving them an opportunity to a brighter future.

KAYA: Filipino Americans for Progress

"The Tagalog word "kaya" embodies the values of change, hope, opportunity, and progress without having to explicitly say the words change, hope, opportunity, and progress," explained Virg Cristobal, the finance director for Kaya. "Moreover, it reflects our mission to address the needs of our Filipino American community effectively and innovatively but it does not exclude non-Filipinos from being a part of our movement...In short, it's an inclusive word that goes beyond ethnic identity."
