May Yabang, Hindi Mayabang

"You can’t give people pride, but you can provide the kind of understanding that makes people look to their inner strengths and find their own sense of pride."

– Charleszetta Waddles

Statement of Purpose:

The theme of FIND, Inc. 2009 Spring Conference is Filipino pride, entitled “May Yabang, Hindi Mayabang” roughly translated as “With pride, not arrogance.”  The goal of this year’s Conference is to provide the delegates with the knowledge of where Filipino pride comes from, to display current Filipino accomplishments that they can be proud of, and to show how they can use their pride to motivate themselves and others to succeed.

The first session, “What we did,” will provide delegates with historical information of how Filipino pride today stems from the accomplishments of Filipinos of the past. The second session, “Who we are today,” will enable delegates to connect with Filipinos who have made great achievements in their respective endeavors and will inspire delegates to have a positive feeling of Filipino pride. The final session, “What does the future hold?,” will call on delegates to self reflect and use their pride to better themselves and their communities.

By providing this new understanding of Filipino pride and achievements, delegates will be able to serve as models for a positive outlook and a search for excellence within the Filipino community and beyond.

Goals

  • To aid the delegates in recognizing that Filipino pride stems from the accomplishments of those before us
  • To bring to the forefront the rise of Filipino presence in today’s society.
  • To offer and empower delegates with resources that will encourage them to use their pride positively in order to better themselves and their communities
